Happy Birthday Derek!

We were late on this one. Wonder when we'll ever do a song on time? :P

Happy birthday, Derek!

Happy Birthday Jabber and Suz!

Fire and me singing Happy Birthday to Jabber and Suzanne. Fire took care of everything on this one, as my computer takes too long to upload/edit/export the videos, and this is the biggest file we've done yet. Our audio program turned invisible a couple times though, so we couldn't see if it was working or not. We had a blank gray screen when we pressed the 'record' button, and had to restart her computer to get rid of it. It started going invisible again the next time, with the controls disappearing briefly, but then they showed up again and we were able to do this all okay. ^_^

As always, if you can't view it, try a different browser.

Early because we couldn't wait. >.<

Happy (late) Birthday Jack!

As always, if you can't see it, switch browsers. Thanks, Linds, for the idea! Anyhoo, it's me and Fire on the recording. Enjoy!

Psychology Homework

Psychology rules all.

http://www.prisonexp.org/

I need to write a paper on the experiment above, which shouldn't be too awful hard, considering how awesome it is. Please note that by 'awesome' I mean 'interesting' not 'great idea' or 'good'.

Still working on Derek's animation, and that is a half lie. I am working on my homework and this blog entry, and will work on the animation when I have time. Hoooooold your horses, Derek. :-)

Still working on starting up the California school. The Washington one is pretty well on its way. Looking at getting one in Hawaii. I don't know what happened to Oregon... it was supposed to go CA, OR, WA, but looks to be going Washington, California, Hawaii, and possibly Oregon? Considering a bunch of us live in Oregon, I find it somewhat strange that Oregon's the odd one out...

Ah well. www.achieveonline.org One of the people who's working on the one down in CA is coming up today. He's an old friend of the family, so he'll be bunking in with us 'till CA needs him again. He's 6'4, which is a foot taller than the tallest in our house (dad). Still trying to find him a place to sleep where his feet won't hang over the edge.

Also, I have discovered AFI. Not really a big fan of them overall, but I love their song, 'Prelude'. Check it out sometime, yeah?

I'm out.

Animation

Toon Boom is being buggy. When I first tried to export this as a video, everything was flipped horizontally. Really, I'm supposed to be falling out the LEFT side of the screen. I really don't care much about which side I fall out, though, so long as it's consistent. However, when the text is flipped horizontally as well so that you would need a mirror to read it...

Rather than go back and flip everything, I just went back and flipped all the text so that it was backwards and exported it again. It looked okay in the preview, but let's see if it worked.

Here be the mirror writing one:

Back!

California was a blast. Got to see an old friend. Pretty much the only thing we did was eat and walk the dogs. I have absolutely no complaints however, as they were both really, really fun, strange as that may sound. :)

Also! I got my first In-n-Out hamburger in almost two years. Hallelujah. Every person should make at least one trip to Southern California, if only for an In-n-Out hamburger. There be no better, I assure you.

Got a camera the day before we left to come back, so I don't really have many pictures. What few I do were mainly taken from behind a window, or from the plane. Not so sure any of them will turn out, but it was fun being one of those annoying, clicky tourists. Especially because I used to live around there, once upon a time.

Not too much had changed, which is surprising. Here, things are rarely the same as they were a month ago. In two years, it might look like a foreign country, compared to what it was two years prior.

S. CA still requires you speak Spanish if you want something. Almost everyone down there who works with people has a little thing under their name tag saying 'Yo Hablo Espanol'. After four days, I'm beginning to wonder if they shouldn't change that to 'I speak English'.

Oh, and I might be taking a trip to Beijing in the future. Wayne, a business man down there, was already making plans for it before I reminded him that it takes money to get to Beijing, and I didn't have any. So he told me to make a plan to get some. I told him that it would take a while to save enough for two tickets: Mom and mine. He said that if we paid for the tickets, he would pay for the rest. Hotel, food, everything.

So it looks like I might be going to China!

...But not for another few years. ;)

Next quarter:
  • Psychology
  • Creative Writing
  • World History
This next one is going to be my funnest quarter yet, I think. All of those subjects rock. ^.^ Can't wait.

What?

One of my last assignments that I need to do for this quarter is for my sociology class. So far, it's been an eye-opening class, and it was a fun ride, particularly since it involved us, the students, performing experiments that were slightly wacky. This, however, was completely unexpected. Here it is, the last thing I need to do for the class:

(a) At one of your meals, preferably dinner, before you begin to eat, simply stop, be still and observe what is on your plate for five minutes. Observe it closely, in detail, with an open mind. After that, proceed to eat but without utensils. Don’t use any piece of technology. Use your hands. Be aware of your food as precisely as you can. Identify with it and follow its journey.

[We’re inserting a gap here in our ordinary eating rituals and we’re tearing open the cocoon of technological distance that we inhabit.]

(b) After your meal, go directly to the bathroom. Observe the toilet bowl for ten minutes with an open mind. See what you can see. Then, drop a piece of food from your meal into the toilet. Observe it a moment, then flush.

Now, write a report of your experiences and insights.

Two pages seems about right.

...Just like that! He tells us to stare at the toilet bowel for ten minutes and then says to write about our insights and experiences. This has been the most interesting and the strangest class I've taken in my life. I love it. The only worry I have with this assignment is my parents, my dad in particular, walking by and seeing me while I stare at a piece of food floating around it the toilet. I would never hear the end of it. >.<

But then, this isn't due until after I come back from California, and it'll just be Mom and me down there. Mom, I really don't have any issues with, if I explain the assignment ahead of time. Dad... if I told him ahead of time, he would be watching me, just waiting for me to start on this assignment so he could tease me (in a nice, loving way, of course). :P Perhaps I'll take care of this assignment down there.

:)

South for the... Spring?

I'm heading to Southern California for a few days in March. The plane leaves (really) early in the morning, both going to and coming back. Farewell, sleep. I got a week before I go, though.

Good news: I'll be ahead in my school work by time we leave, so I'll be able to spend those few days at peace.

Internet access is questionable, so I'll be out of contact for a bit.

I won't be ahead any more by time I come back, which means, depending on how far ahead I get now, I might or might not be in contact until the end of the quarter (Meaning I might or might not be swamped and ready to bite your head off.).

I'll get to be a tourist and a example of an experiment gone right for a few days, engaging in fun touristy activities and, best of all, sleep. Hey, everybody needs to sleep sometime. First vacation in a looooooooong while. Can't wait. ^.^

Gets better.

By the end of March, I might have time to be around on YWS again. We'll see then, yes?

Until then!

EDIT: Oh yes. I also added a chat feature to this place. Down and to the left.^.^

Perverts and Sasquatches

At the cabin. Mom, Fire, and I all left a couple days ahead of Dad, who just caught up with us yesterday. Someone was banging on the cabin. I don’t know if any of you remember the cabin, but if you so much as walk with a heavy step, you shake the whole place, all 800 sq. feet of it. And someone was banging on it. It was like a manmade earthquake. Laughing, Mom went to the door. This was just the sort of thing Dad would do to get a laugh out of us, and he was coming up that day.

“Helloooo?” she called, still laughing.

***Assuming my dad's name is Robert, and my mom's name is Rachael, here's the rest of the story***

“ROBERT! Robert! Robert! Robert!” we hear someone squawk. It most certainly was not my dad, and it was coming from under our deck. Under our deck. Why in the world was someone squawking under our deck? I’m working on a quiz in the other room, away from people, so I only get the audio of the situation.

“Robert! Nowhesoldmechickensandandandand-nowweneedtodisscussthis!”

I poke my head out the door and get Fire’s attention before signing to her, ‘What in the world? Who is this?” She signs back that now is not the time. She’s in the living room, which is the room that the front door opens up into. So she has the perfect view of the situation.

“I’mgetting-andIgotadozen-adozeneggstodayfromthese-thosechickens!”

“Oh yeah?” my mom said. She’s using the tone she uses when she’s ready to end the conversation. “Well, Robert will be home soon so I’ll tell him you stopped-”

“Oh no! He’s here. Hefollowedmeuphereandnowhe’shere! Butweneedtodisscussthesechickens!”

I raise my eyebrows at Fire. Normally, when we sell an animal, she’s the one who makes sure they’re going to a good home. Even if it’s something like a chicken which will likely end up dinner, she makes sure. And she and Dad sold their chickens to this guy? She gives me a look that tells me to go back to my test, but in a way that’s says ‘haha, I know something you don’t’. So my sister keeps me wondering for a while.

Eventually Dad comes up and the guy invites himself into our cabin. Mom invites him to sit down, but by now it’s clear that he’s much to hyper to sit down. I poke my head out again and get my first glimpse of the man. He looks like he’s in his sixties and has a long beard. He, Mom, and Dad talk, and pretty soon Fire comes in with me. We go into gmail chat when our sign language vocabulary runs low, but the situation proves to be too much for mere words, so we just listen. The door’s open, and we’re in plain sight to anyone who wants to see us. Eventually, the guy start hopping from time while he’s talking, and one of those hops lands him in front of the door to where Fire and I are. He starts to hop again, still talking, but suddenly freezes and looks at me.

“You got pretty hair. Don’t ever cut it. The boys’ll go absolutely nuts over your hair. Keep it long!”

And then he goes on talking about what he was talking about before, hopping away and leaving me to blink at the empty door way.

“You-you-you-you-you- what’s your name?” he finally asks my Mom. Before she can answer, Dad cuts in.

“Bob.”

“Bob? Alright then, see here, Bob, this here is-”

Mom busts up laughing. “Rachael!” she says, but I don’t think the guy heard her.

Eventually, Dad decides it’s time to get this guy out of the cabin, and turns to the one topic that every person in this town loves to talk about: beer.

“We need to go to the bar.” He says, herding the guy towards the door.

“We ARE going to the bar!” The guy says, sounding on the brink of having a heart attack at the idea that they might not go to the bar.

“I know. We’re going to the bar.”

“Oh, well do you want me to drive you? My tractor is right next to your driveway.”

“No, that’s fine. I’ll take my truck.”

The guy ducks under Dad’s arm as he reaches to the door handle and gives Mom the evil eye.

“Now, we can take my tractor so that somebody doesn’t get in trouble!” Dad smiles and gets behind the guy again, sandwiching him between himself and the door.

“I won’t get in trouble. My wife has a car. She can come and get me if I need her to.” He says, reaching for the door again, and once more walling the guy in.

“But what about the girls? Who’s gonna watch them?”

“I’m sure they’ll be-”

“You can’t leave these beautiful young girls alone here with perverts and Sasquatches in the woods!” He roared, jumping away from dad again and coming over to Fire and me, giving us the evil eye now. Dad casts his gaze heavenward.

“Girls! Let me tell you something!” and he goes on to talk about his Valentine’s Day this year and last year. I’m sure there’s a moral somewhere in his story, but for the life of me, I still can’t find it.

Dad once again herds the guy to the door, and quickly closes it behind them before the guy can jump back in.

In any case, I was able to complete my exam with a few minutes to spare. :D The teacher has graded only one thing since the beginning of the quarter, so I don’t think I’ll get my grades for it anytime soon.

Things due: essay on Friday, research paper on the 5th and a quiz tomorrow. See you later.

Why, hello!

*squints* I think I remember how to do this... *scratches head* *tries to remember how to speak html*

Ah, well. DDNR's still down, and I got sick of staying out of touch. This way, I can do my school work, doodle notes for a blog post when I get a break, and still stay on top of things. At the moment, I am swamped. I somehow manage to squeeze sleep and food between the books, and this post is cutting into my sleep time. But not blogging was distracting me from studying, so I couldn't have it both ways. So now I have a blog again, though once Day Dreamer comes back, this will no doubt be forgotten... In any case, I shall see you all in June. For the moment, here's an animation from the time when I could make such things. ^.^ If you can't see it, try a different browser.

And I will be going back to the trees for a week. I'm leaving tomorrow. It'll be nice to do my work outside and not be surrounded by houses. If I don't forget about this, I shall see you all the next time I can afford to lose some sleep time.

Until then!

:)
